He spends most of his life in the land of Batak. He eats with them, he talk with them, he shows sympathy to them. His life became a great example to Christian today. Nommensen, the apostle of Batak gave a great impact on the people in Batak land from evil to the living God. Nommensen's method to reach out to the heartens Batak people was amazing. In order the local people easy to understand the gospel he blended the gospel into their custom. The way he approaches the people follow the step of Jesus in reaching out to the people. Jesus ate with the sinners, he approaches the Samaritan women at the well, he mingle s with a tax collector, he healed the leper, he spent his time teaching the people. His method always brings success. It said: “Christ’s method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Savior mingled with men as one who desired their good. He showed His sympathy for them, ministered to their needs, and won their confidence. Then He bade them, “Follow Me.”Chart 1. Nommensen Method In this millennial era, the context and culture are different compare to Nommensen situation. The number of people stay in the city is increasing, the challenge of the mission in digital era required a new approach to reach the new generation. In the city, people are easy to connected but the relationship only at the surface, that is why mental issue increase significantly because people tend to face everything alone. People are likely more interesting to interact in device rather than a physical meeting. Somehow the oral teaching is preferable rather than read by themself.27 Some approaches of Nommensen to the Batak people that we still can apply in the modern era. 1. Mercy Ministry Nommensen entered the foreign land by offered what the local people what they need at that time. The situation during covid brings people to a deep recession in the economy, social, physical, and mental. The number of people needs help is increase, missionary can use this approach to make contact with them. Might be the opportunity to reach them through counselling, entrepreneurship, or training will be preferred. 2. Contextualize the idol to God Nommensen successfully utilizes the culture in his teaching and approach. His ability to understand the underlying issue of culture brings success in his ministry. Because he manages to adopt and use the local culture with the gospel, the batak people become familiar with the ritual to God. Some ritual was accommodating to praise and worship to God. How we can do the same thing to the new millennial people?
